Travel Information
The following financial support for travel expenses, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, will be provided to all participants: up to 100 Euro for Germany, 250 Euro from Europe, and up to 800 Euro for students coming from overseas. (These are minimal numbers. Depending on the total expenses we may be able to cover more.)To reimburse your travel costs, we will require your original tickets and a signed form which you will receive during your stay in Freiburg. All participants are required to attend for the whole duration of the summer school.

Freiburg is on the main Frankfurt am Main - Basel railway line, with frequent and fast long-distance passenger services from the Freiburg Main Station to major German and other European cities. For train connections, please check here. Last-minute train tickets can also be found here.By bus
The city is served by the A5 Frankfurt am Main - Basel motorway, as well as by A81 Stuttgart-Singen or the B31 (Höllental), Donaueschingen, Titisee-Neustadt. For bus connections, please check here.By plane
Freiburg can be reached via a number of airports:- EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (EAP / BSL) in France, close to the borders of both Germany and Switzerland, 70 km south of Freiburg. There is a direct bus connection to and from the airport served by Airport, see here and here.
- Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is approximately 270 km from Freiburg but with an excellent direct ICE connection from Freiburg Main Station to Frankfurt Airport in about 2 hours and from there you have direct access to the terminal.
- Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport (Baden Airpark, FKB) is approximately 100 km north of Freiburg and is also served by several airlines. There is a direct shuttle connection from Freiburg. Alternatively, it can be reached by bus and train.
- Strasbourg Airport / Aeroport International Strasbourg (SXB) is located approximately 60 km away from Freiburg just south of Strasbourg (near Entzheim). There is a direct shuttle connection from Freiburg. Alternatively, it can be reached by bus and train.
- Zürich Airport (ZRH) is approximately 150 km from Freiburg, the airport can be easily reached by train with a direct ICE connection from Freiburg Main Station to Zurich or by regional train to Zurich and bus to Freiburg.
- Stuttgart Airport (STR) is approximately 200 km from Freiburg. The airport is easily reached by train from the main station in Freiburg via Karlsruhe to Stuttgart Main Station. Alternatively, there is also a direct bus connection to Freiburg.
