Abstract

The workshop is funded by the DAAD under the Giovanni-Prodi-Guestprofessorship-Program at the University of Würzburg. In the academic year 2009/10, Professor Terry Gannon is holding this guest professorship. In accordance with his research interests, which focus around conformal quantum field theories, a modern area of mathematical physics, the workshop is devoted to so-called D-branes, from a conformal field theoretic point of view. Such D-branes occur in open string theories, since open strings end on them. The mathematical and algebraic description is equally fascinating to geometers, topologists, algebraists and mathematical physicists and is the main focus of this workshop.
