My main research interests are motivated from conformal field theory, quantum field theory and string theory, addressing their connections to algebraic geometry, geometry in general, and analysis. Many of my research results are concerned with the moduli space of two dimensional unitary conformal field theories with central charge c=6 and N=(4,4) supersymmetry whose classical limits are described by K3 surfaces. More recent research projects deal with the algebraic geometry of elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau varieties and with topological field theories. The latter has become a leitmotiv for the research in my group in the framework of an ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grant The Geometry of Topological Quantum Field Theories of mine. I am also a PI in the DFG Research Training Group GRK 1821 Cohomological Methods in Geometry, which was launched on October 1, 2012.
